The Simrad AR80 Analogue Repeater, originally manufactured by Marine Data as an OEM product for Simrad, is a compact and highly accurate heading repeater. Designed to display vessel heading with a ±0.1° accuracy, it features a 118mm analogue dial, graduated in 1° increments, ensuring precise and clear readability. The repeater is housed in a rugged, marine-grade aluminium enclosure, finished in Jet Black (RAL 9005) Fine-Texture Powder Coat, designed to complement other marine navigation equipment.
The AR80 is equipped with automatic heading source prioritisation, displaying either True or Magnetic heading data from connected navigation systems. It automatically detects and prioritises available heading sources, ensuring continuous and reliable heading information. In the event of data loss, the repeater provides an automatic indication, and it will automatically re-detect a previously lost heading source once it becomes available, without requiring a reset.
For enhanced usability, the AR80 includes a rotary encoder with an integrated push-button, allowing for local dimming control of the illuminated dial and an internal self-test function. The repeater supports both panel mounting and optional bracket mounting, making it suitable for a variety of vessel installations, even in confined spaces.
The AR80 Analogue Repeater receives heading data via RS422 serial input, supporting NMEA 0183 (IEC 61162-1) HDT, HDG, and HDM sentences at automatic baud rate detection. It operates on a 24V DC power supply with a 0.75A current draw. A 2.5m screened cable, fitted with a 15-way D-type connector, ensures reliable and efficient connectivity. The compass safe distance is 2 meters.
